Designing a staircase is not rocket science, but it still requires a range of knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, in practice these skills are increasingly disappearing. Surprisingly, there is also relatively little literature on the subject that covers the technical side. This website aims to contribute a little to preserving and sharing this knowledge.
If you are a private builder, we warmly invite you to learn more about staircase construction here. However, we strongly recommend having your staircase planned and built by a professional. It is not only about appearance and walkability, but also about liability should someone be harmed.
In the following, all important points are covered in roughly the order in which they arise during stair planning, and then an example will be “worked through”.
