Coordinate Method

Baseline method for stair winding

A relatively simple and often used method of stair winding that usually delivers good results.

See how fast it works

The coordinate method is relatively easy to carry out and is often used because of its generally good results. It is also called the baseline method.

In this method, the front and back edges of the corner step must be carefully defined, since their position influences the entire winding.

Construction Steps

First Winding Section

  • 1. First, extend the last straight step edge.
  • 2. Then define the corner step and extend its edges up to this line (baseline).
  • 3. The distance between these intersection points is then marked outward as many times as there are steps to be wound.
  • 4. Each of these points is then connected with the corresponding intersection point on the walking line.

Second Winding Section

  • 5. The same is done with the second part of the winding section.
