DGUV Rule 102-002 Daycare Facilities formerly BG/GUV-SR S2 (April 2009)

Among other things, provisions for stairs and fall protection are contained here. In addition to more general formulations, concrete instructions are also included, for example on step design, step dimensions, or handrail height.

Note: Why the recommended handrail height of 80 cm is only 5 cm lower than that for adults is difficult to understand.

DGUV Regulation 81 Schools formerly GUV-V S 1 (May 2001)

Contains a short section on stairs (§ 9) and fall protection (§ 8). The formulations are rather general in nature (“adapted to the user group...”).

Important Sections:
  • § 8: Fall Protection
  • § 9: Stairs

DGUV 208-005 Information: Stairs formerly BGI/GUV-I 561 (April 1991, updated version July 2010)

This information provides comprehensive guidance for the safety-compliant design and maintenance of stairs in general. It is somewhat of a compilation of other standards and regulations.

Contents:
  • Safety-compliant design of stairs
  • Maintenance of stairs
  • Compilation of various standards and regulations

Important Note on DGUV

The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) develops regulations for accident prevention. These regulations and rules are particularly important for public institutions such as schools and kindergartens and supplement the general building supervisory provisions with accident prevention-specific aspects.
